Of a car club anyway. Specifically our local Volvo owners club. The previous president didn’t want to do it anymore and apparently a offhanded “I wouldn’t mind helping out” means I am president now.

We call that being “Voluntold”

I’m the vice chair of my church’s finance committee and a cub scout den leader...all because I was like “Yeah, maybe I could help with that...” (and now I have an extra 40-50 hours a month of work on my plate).

And I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Both are excellent distractions from the normal daily grind. If the passion is there, it’ll be easy and fun.

That’s how I found myself responsible for doing oil changes for the police fleet where I work. The chief needed his Explorer done but was too busy to take it to the shop.

After he saw how much time not driving it 15 miles for an oil change saved he decided we’d just always do it in house.

Thankfully the “fleet” is 4 Tauruses and his Explorer. Plus, I’m trying to work a deal to buy a surplus Crown Vic cheap.
